The Other Kind of Post

So yeah, in addition to the reviews, in my first post I said that I'd also just be blabbin' on about stuff. This is one of those kinds of posts.

So I don't know what's going on, but it seems like everyone time I get into my car, I encounter more and more bad drivers. And I'm not just talking about some jerk who happens to cut you off or anything. The things I have seen, I almost don't believe myself.

And it's not just the actual drivers that seem to be suffering from this epidemic of stupidity. It seems to be anyone who has some sort of interaction with the road at all. The other day I was driving down Lamar when, what did I have to break for? I had to slam on my breaks cuz these "cool dudes" though it would be funny to push each other into the street. Oh and did I mention these weren't even younger kids. They were my age, maybe older. Lamar is a BUSY street! Like.... ALL THE TIME. I almost killed someone cuz they thought it would be funny. I'd really like to know the exact thoughts that were going through their heads. For a bit.... I seem to get desensitized to the stupidity around me. But then I'll see something new and it will just surprise me.

In other news... I did recently get Dark Souls so I'll probably be doing a review on that. It'll be tricky though. Typically, I'm gonna only review games that I've played thoroughly, meaning... if it has a story mode, I'll want to have played through all of it. My last review (Marvel Vs Capcom 3) was able to happen fairly easily due to the fact that it's a fighting game. I guess... you could say it has a "story mode" but when I say story mode I mean... a few rounds of fights against a computer opponent that only took about 10 minutes to get through. Now the reason Dark Souls will be tricky is that it is FREAKING HARD! Holy crap it's hard. I died, several times I might add, on the very first enemy you encounter in the game. This is DURING the tutorial. That added onto the fact that it's actually a fairly long game, means that I waited to do a review on it til I finished it... it wouldn't happen for years, is ever. I have already played it a bit, so when I do review it, I'll just be going off of what I experienced.

Let's see... what else.... oh yeah! Gears of War 3 review coming also, for those of you interested. And.... HOLY GUACAMOLE Mass Effect 3 is gonna have multiplayer. If you're interested in seeing a little featurette on this little tid bit, go to gametrailers.com and look up Mass Effect 3. It should be the mos recent video on it. Folks... it looks awesome. Co-op gameplay that finally allows you to play as one of the alien races. That, and the multiplayer actually serves a purpose! It's not just for team deathmatch or anything! The multiplayer has somewhat of it's own storyline, and the results from this can actually impact the ending of the single player story. Ummm.... Wow? Yes... yes wow.

So that's all for now. Look for my Dark Souls and Gears of War 3 reviews that should be up soon. Later players.

First Review: Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

So originally I was gonna review Gears of War 3 today. BUT.... at the insistence of my friend Chris I shall do a review on MvC3 since the Ultimate version of it is coming out soon.

So first off, for those of you who don't know, Marvel vs Capcom is a fighting game that blends Marvel super heroes and villains with Capcom game characters. The matches have the players choose a team of three ending up in a 3v3 tag match. This game is all about the combos ladies and gentlemen. While in other fighting games like Mortalk Kombat, you are lucky to see a 12 hit combo.... in MvC3 you would probably be considered a total noob if 12 hits was the best you could do. I consider myself to be a pretty big rookie at the game and I'm doing combos at around 30 or so hits.

So knowing this, I'm going to say that if you are new to fighting games, DO NOT start off with Marvel vs Capcom 3. There is a "simple" mode to the game, however all this does is limit your choices for combos. It does make doing a characters hyper combos easier, but when going against players who actually know the game, they will be able to get past this fairly easily.

Just because this is a super complicated game, doesn't mean it's bad though. I've actually spent more time on it then I ever thought I'd spend on a fighting game. And I lose a lot too. Normally if I play a game where I only win once for every 5 games I lose, I'd quit. But for some reason I just keep trucking on with this game. I suppose it's the satisfaction you get from finally beating someone that could kick your ass before. So let's just talk good and bad about this game.

The Good: First thing I noticed about the game, were the visuals. The art style for the game is just so colorful and flashy, and the cell shaded characters make it seem like it's actually a comic book in action. It's part of what made me even get the game in the first place. In addition to this The controls can be very smooth. Considering it's such a fast paced game, it's important that your controller can keep up, and for the most part it does a good job of making this so. Oh and when I say fast paced.... I really mean FAST paced. Sometimes I'll get beaten so fast I'll just blink and be like, "Wha...?"

The Bad: So I said the controls are good FOR THE MOST PART. See I've actually gotten to get the handle of the game and one of the only major hurdles I have left... is my 360 controller. This game seems to be meant to be played with a fight stick. Using a fightstick gives you more ways to customize your button layout, and it also much more accurate. Downside though... is that they cost MONEY which sucks for me. Maybe it's just my controller that is funky, but in my opinion, the designers had fightsticks more in mind then regular controllers.

The other problem with the game comes from the mechanics. While for the most part everything works great, the designers did miss some problems. I'm not talking about where the game just blows up or anything. But problems int he sense that players have found ways to cheat the systems. I mentioned that this game is heavy on combo making? Well some characters have specific moves where, if used at the right time, can create an infinite loop. Normally, even if the combo is super long and badass, it still ends. But when these moves can be infinity looped, that's just not fair.

Along witht hat there are some glitches here and there just like in any other games. I personally haven't encountered any, but there are definitely some funny vids out there of giant characters and odd camera shifting.

So taking this into account, I actually like Marvel vs Capcom a lot. It does induce intense rage moments in myself sometimes, but that's just cuz I'm not the best player. The game itself gets 3.5 out of 5 from me. I guess it's a good time to mention I go on a rating system of 5? Might change in the future. I don't know... But anyways! Next time I'll probably be talking about Gears 3 so yeah. Later players.

Hello World!

Well I finally did it! I created one of these "blog" things. So basically, I just thought it'd be kind of cool to have somewhere to just talk to the world (world meaning whoever actually manages to find their way to this site) and just give my views on things. And by views I mean VIDJA GAME REVIEWS! I'm a huge gamer and even plan on going into that field once I graduate.

In addition to those awesomely awesome reviews, I'll also just be blabbing on. After all, games don't come out every single day. ALSO..... I'm a college student so just the notion of me actually being able to afford every game that comes out makes me laugh.

So anyways... about the reviews. I'm basically just kind of like a second opinion. My methods of critiquing a game is probably way different then established gaming sites that do video reviews and such. Also, if a game is fun and I like it... it gets a good review. I'm not some sports game junky, or some CoD fanatic that only plays first person shooters and is a douchebag. On the other hand, I also don't only cater to Indie or just obscure rpg games. CoD is fun. I like. I also like games like Tales of Symphonia which a lot of people (sadly) haven't heard of. So that's that. Welcome to this blog I guess!

P.S. Feel free to leave suggestions and shtuff in the comments.
